Surakshya Pokharel

Ms. Surakshya Pokharel completed her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Saptagandaki Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Her research interests include biodiversity conservation, wildlife ecology, environmental sustainability, and community-based conservation. She has been involved in field-based research and conservation activities, gaining experience in ecological data collection, field surveys, household surveys, key informant interviews, and community engagement. Her published research includes a study entitled “Community Perspectives on the Sustainability of Cow Sheds and Their Role in Vulture Conservation around Shuklaphanta National Park, Nepal,” highlighting community practices and their role in vulture conservation. She has also received research support through the BCN Thesis Grant and Idea Wild Equipment Support Grant for “Distribution and Population Status of Critically Endangered White-rumped Vulture in Kawasoti”. 

In addition to her research experience, she has worked as a Nutrition Facilitator, where she worked directly with communities’ children affected by Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM). This experience helped her understand how environmental and living conditions, including sanitation, hygiene, food availability, and household surroundings, can influence child health and contribute to malnutrition. Through her research and community-based experience, she aims to contribute to biodiversity conservation, environmental research, and sustainable community development in Nepal
